Extends Partnership with Department Of Education
Renews
High-Speed Bandwidth Donation For Technology Education In
Bermuda Public Schools
TeleBermuda
International (TBI) in conjunction with the Ministry of
Education has announced the renewal of its commitment to
provide high-speed Internet access to every Government school
in Bermuda for another two years.
A
press conference recognising the extended donation was hosted
by the Minister of Education and Development, Hon. Terry
Lister, JP. MP, the President & CEO of TeleBermuda International
Limited, James Fitzgerald and TBI Director of Sales, Lee
Greene.
TBI
initiated its donation of high-speed bandwidth to the Bermuda
public school system three years ago. During this period,
the bandwidth from TBI has provided every Government school
with access to TBI’s world-class fibre optic network
and access to one of Bermuda’s largest and robust
Internet backbones.
Terry
Lister, Minister for Education and Development, commented,
“We are very pleased to acknowledge the continued
support of TBI with its high-speed bandwidth donation for
the Bermuda public school system. TBI’s donation like
many others from members of the Bermuda public and corporate
community is greatly appreciated. It is a reflection of
the continued strength and growing commitment to quality
education that exists in Bermuda. The students and teachers
of Bermuda appreciate the world-class technology service
that is being provided and today, on behalf of the students
and teachers, we want to again say, thank you to TBI.”
Educational
and teaching benefits realised during the past three years
included:
- Enhanced
school-to-school communications throughout the Island
via email

Access to Edunet, the state-of-the-art school administration
software used throughout the world

The option to use video conferencing for distance learning
and live educational events on and off Island

The future option to provide Internet-based instruction
from both the classroom and from home or other remote
sites (e.g. when a child is sick and needs to study from
home).

Fitzgerald, President of TeleBermuda International commented,“With
TBI’s state-of-the-art network and world-class telecommunication
facilities, we are delighted to be in a position to continue
with the donation of our high-speed Internet facilities
and state-of-the-art technology infrastructure on behalf
of Bermuda’s children and teachers. Students will
continue to experience the strength and power of the Internet
with the convenience, speed and reach of communications
in a structured learning environment.”
Lee
Greene, Director of Sales for TeleBermuda stated, “Its
part of TBI’s basic philosophy to be engaged and involved
in the community. TBI is committed to numerous long-term
community events and social partnerships. Our involvement
with the Bermuda Technology Educaion Collaborative (B.TEC)
is however one of the most important. Investment in education
is an investment in the future for us all, and as employers
we have seen the benefits in the high-caliber of Bermuda’s

with the B.TEC initiative and the Department of Education
